Biography

I have worked as a qualified individual, couple and family psychotherapist for over 25 years in private practice, social services and mental health services.

I am trained in systemic, behavioural and cognitive methods of therapy.

I work as a private practitioner at present.  I worked as a Systemic Psychotherapist at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) at The Aldrington Centre in Brighton and Hove.  I was a founding partner of Family Ties which was a couple and family therapy service in Brighton between 1998 and 2006.

I have completed training in couple and family therapy through an M.Sc. in Family Therapy (Practice, Theory, Teaching and Research) at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust London and the Institute of Family Therapy, London. I have trained in Behavioural Couple Therapy.  I am registered with the UK Council of Psychotherapy (No. 00980762) and I am a member of the Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice.  I also have a social work qualification which is a Master of Social Work, as well as a B.A. (Hons).

At Brighton and Hove CAMHS I was one of two senior family therapists.  I specialised in working with young people and their families with a range of problems including depression, anxiety, anorexia and challenging behaviour.  In that Service, we use a Care Pathway approach to provide evidence-based practice.

My work in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and the Individual and Family Eating Disorder Service has given me considerable learning and experience of individual psychology as well as events and processes that can lead to problems.

I am a qualified Family Therapy Supervisor having trained at the Tavistock Centre and then registered with the Association of Family Therapy and Systemic Practice.

I have had articles published in professional magazines such as  ‘Context’, the magazine for the Association for Family and Systemic Therapy on positive couple relationships, behavioural and systemic couple therapy, narratives in families, domestic violence, post-divorce processes, alternative sexualities, masculinity and successful family therapy.
